Si Papa Evaristo ay ang Obispo ng Roma mula c. 99 hanggang sa kanyang kamatayan c. 107.[1][2] Kilala rin siya bilang Aristus at ngayon iginagalang bilang isang santo sa Eastern Orthodox Church,[3] ang Simbahang Katoliko, at Oriental Orthodoxy. Malamang na San Juan ay namatay noong panahon ng kanyang paghahari, na minarkahan ang pagtatapos ng Apostolic Age.

Si Evaristo ay inilalarawan sa marmol sa Saint Peter's Basilica

Ayon sa Liber Pontificalis, siya ay isang Griyego sa kapanganakan, ama ng isang Hudyo na nagngangalang Judah mula sa lungsod ng Bethlehem.[4] Siya ay inihalal noong panahon ng paghahari ng Roman emperor Trajan, at humalili Clement I sa See of Rome. Hinati niya ang mga titulo sa mga pari sa lungsod ng Rome, at nag-orden ng pitong deacon para panatilihin ang pangangaral ng bishop, dahil sa istilo ng katotohanan.

Ayon sa aklat na Sullivan, Kagalang-galang John F. (1918). The Externals of the Catholic Church. Aeterna Press. Ipinag-utos ni Evaristus na "alinsunod sa tradisyon ng Apostoliko ang kasal ay dapat ipagdiwang sa publiko at sa basbas ng pari". Eusebius, sa kanyang Church History IV, I, ay nagpahayag na si Evaristus ay namatay noong ika-12 taon ng paghahari ng Emperador Trajan pagkatapos humawak sa katungkulan ng obispo ng mga Romano sa loob ng walong taon.

Inilarawan pa siya ng Liber Pontificalis bilang ang "nakoronahan ng pagkamartir".[5] Ang parehong ay ipinahiwatig din ng aklat na "Ang buhay at panahon ng mga papa".[6] Gayunpaman, sa Roman Martyrology siya ay nakalista nang walang martir pamagat, na may isang araw ng kapistahan sa 26 Oktubre.[7]

Si Pope Evaristus ay inilibing malapit sa bangkay ni Saint Peter sa Vatican, sa libingan ni San Pedro sa ilalim ng Basilica ni San Pedro.[8]
