This template is used to provide biographical information on anyone who might be considered a philosopher. This template is generally superseded by officeholder templates (if the philosopher held political or other public office; e.g. Alan Greenspan).
To use this template, copy the text above to the top of a biography article. Note that parameter names are lowercase:
- region, name, birth, and school_tradition are compulsory; other fields, if left blank, will not appear in the Infobox;
- era is optional (should be selected from Category:Philosophy by era);
- region should be selected from Category:Philosophy by region;
- school_tradition should be selected from Category:Philosophical schools and traditions;
- Entries in influences, influenced, and notable ideas should be explained in the main text of one of the articles. Those that are not mentioned in the main text may be deleted.
- box_width = 26em - is optional (23em is also common width).
Microformat
baguhinThe HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.
Date-of-birth ("bday") parameters will only be included in the microformat if {{Birth date}} or {{Birth date and age}} are used in the infobox.
hCard uses HTML classes including:
- adr
- bday
- county-name
- fn (required)
- honorific-prefix
- honorific-suffix
- label
- locality
- nickname
- note
- org
- role
- vcard
Please do not rename or remove these classes.
