The phrase "BTS biot" was first trended as a hashtag by two male senior high school students from Jose Rizal Memorial University (JRMSU) in Zamboanga del Norte on June 3, 2021 as part of their photoshoot.[1] That said hashtag drew criticism from the social media, especially from the fans of BTS, with some accusing the school of allowing the students to promote hate.[1] The hashtag even reached in South Korean social medias.[2]

On June 18, 2021, Grab Philippines has suspended its delivery riders after the screenshots of some Grab drivers posting homophobic comments against the boy band went on social media. Grab issued a statement, citing that "inclusivity is one of Grab's core values, and we have zero-tolerance policy for inexcusable behaviors."[3]
