Bridgetown
Ang Bridgetown (UN/LOCODE: BB BGI)[1] ay ang kabisera at ang pinakamalaking lungsod ng Barbados. Dating The Town of Saint Michael (Ang Bayan ng San Miguel), ang lugar ng Kalakhang Bridgetown sa loob ng parokya ng Saint Michael. Lokal na tinutukoy minsan ang Bridgetown bilang "The City" o "Ang Lungsod," ngunit karaniwang tinutukoy bilang ang "Town" o "Bayan." Noong 2014, ang kalakhang populasyon nito ay nasa mga 110,000.

Ang puwerto ng Bridgetown, na matatagpuan sa Look ng Carlisle (sa 13°06′22″N 59°37′55″W / 13.106°N 59.632°W) ay nasa timog-kanlurang baybayin ng pulo. Ang mga bahagi ng lugar ng Kalakhang Bridgetown (halos na nabibigyan ng depinisyon ng Ring Road Bypass o mas karaniwang kilala bilang ang ABC Highway),[2] ay nasa hangganan ng katabing mga parokya ng Christ Church at St. James. Noong maikling-buhay na Pederasyon ng Britong Kanlurang Indiyanong Teritoryo noong dekada 1950-1960, isa ang Bridgetown sa tatlong kabiserang mga lungsod[3] sa loob ng rehiyon na tinuturing na Pederal na kabisera ng rehiyon.[4][5]
Naitatag ang kasalukuyang lungsod ng Ingles na naninirahan noong 1628; isang nakaraang panirahan sa ilalim ng awtoridad ni Sir William Courten ay nasa St. James Town. Pangunahing destinasyon ng mga turista sa Kanlurang Indiyas ang Bridgetown, at nagsisilbi ang lungsod bilang isang mahalagang pananalapi, impormatika, sentrong kombensyon, at barkong layag na puwerto ng tawag sa rehiyong Karibe. Noong 25 Hunyo 2011, Ang "Makasaysayang Bridgetown at Garison nito" ay nadagdag bilang Pandaigdigang Pamanang Pook ng UNESCO.[6][7][8]

The World Heritage Committee has inscribed three new sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List so far today: the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany as an extension to the World Heritage site of Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians (Slovakia, Ukraine), Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, the first heritage site of Barbados to enter the World Heritage List; and Hiraizumi – Temples, Gardens and Archaeological Sites

Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison site was considered for nomination after Barbados became signatory to the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention in 2002. Barbados submitted the nomination dossier to UNESCO World Heritage Centre on February 1, 2009, and that was among 45 proposals which were examined by the World Heritage Committee in June 2010. A total of 35 nominations including natural, cultural and mixed properties are being reviewed by the Committee. The session will end on 29 June.

The World Heritage Committee, meeting in Paris, said Bridgetown and its garrison deserved a place on the List, which is comprised of more than 900 cultural or natural sites around the world regarded as having outstanding universal value.
