Ang ibig sabihin ng SP ay Special Player. Sa US ito'y nagprepresyo ng $99.99 at binaba ng $79.99. Sa Pilipinas ito'y nagprepresyo ng mga P8000. Ito'y sinundan ng Game Boy Micro(released in September 2005).
