Dr. Steller, thank you for pointing out that Ferdinand Blumentritt was not Czech, but rather German. I should apologize for that very serious error. I do not understand however why the article about him here in the German Wikipedia is placed under the Tscheche category. But apart from that, I also have a question: Is it correct to call Ferdinand Blumentritt an Austrian, as is widely believed here in the Philippines? —Život 11:52, 23. Sep 2005 (CEST)

The younger days and early (?) work of Professor Blumentritt were in the days of Austria-Hungary (1867-1918). Austria-Hungary was located in Middle Europe, its capital was Wien, its total population was 49 million of which 22.4% was German, 19.4% was Hungarian, the remaining 57% was of nine other nations. The percentage of Czechs was above 10% and the percentage of Austrians was less than 10%.
After World War II he lived and worked in Sudetenland, which became part of Czechoslovakia after the collapse of the Third Reich. Therefore he was neither Austrian nor Czech, but German, the largest ethnic group in Austria-Hungary. However this fact was not to be mentioned [the fact was supressed] for several decades, and only after May of 2004 did Germans in the Czech republic had regained their rights [what rights?]. For example, Ferdinand Blumentritt's children and grandchildren were imprisoned, his [other?] relatives were tortured and killed by the Czech after WW2.

Aber auf Englisch "After World War II he lived and worked in Sudetenland, which became part of Czechoslovakia after the collapse of the Third Reich." - ist nicht ganz korrekt. Besser wäre:
- Blumentritt (1853–1913) lived and worked in Sudetenland, which became after World War II, after the collapse of the Third Reich part of Czechoslovakia. --84.145.126.99 15:18, 2 October 2005 (UTC) (Dr. Steller)
- Done. The earlier translation corresponded exactly to the English you have quoted, but I have made the necessary changes based on your suggestion. I took out these figures though:
- I thought they would be better suited in a separate article on Austria-Hungary. —Život 10:36, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
